Corporate Governance
Community Energy Malawi (CEM) is incorporated under the Trustees Incorporation Act of the Laws of Malawi and is also registered with the NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA). It is governed by a Board of Trustees who are well versed with the energy and development nexus. The Board oversees policy formulation and provides overall guidance to the secretariat including checks and balances. . Implementation of activities and policies is vested in the secretariat headed by the Country Director who is supported by the Trading & Technical Services Manager, Finance and Administration Manager as well as other technical and non-technical staff.
In keeping with Social enterprise model, CEM’s for profit interests are managed through subsidiaries or special purpose vehicles in partnership with other investors. As required by law, CEM is routinely inspected by Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA), and reports to the NGORA. CEM also subscribes to generally acceptable ethics and standards including Safeguarding policy, anti-corruption, fraud and money laundering.
